FDACS in food safety partnership

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson said Thursday his agency would work in partnership with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences to develop a statewide food safety program.

The joint effort is being funded by a $253,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The program will be a multiyear operation to develop and deliver food safety educational materials and training for agricultural producers and workers.

“It is critical to develop and provide materials, training and outreach activities, so that producers and production personnel adopt and adhere to good food safety practices to protect the public,” Bronson said.
