FedEx introduces dry ice alternative

FedEx has rolled out new services for temperature-sensitive shipments using liquid nitrogen dry vapor, a dry ice alternative.
The new offering can maintain a temperature of -150 degrees Celsius for 10 days when combined with FedEx’s CryoPort Express Dry Shipper.
Some of the benefits of the new service include later cut-off times, domestic delivery options that range from urgent to less critical, and the ability to ship dangerous goods. When customers place an order, FedEx provides a pre-conditioned container, delivering it to its final destination while providing monitoring services. FedEx Priority Alert will assist if the shipment encounters trouble during transport.
FedEx will then take back the container and refurbish it for the next shipment.
“These new features provide our healthcare customers with even greater access to some of the latest technology for shipping deep frozen items without dry ice,” FedEx’s Carl Asmus said in a statement. “This is just one more example of how the FedEx HealthCare Solutions team continues to innovate and look for opportunities to exceed our customers’ expectations.” – Jon Ross
