FedEx launches Asia ‘tweener service

FedEx launches Asia ‘tweener service FedEx Express said Thursday it has launched a new day-definite, customs-cleared, door-to-door service in 10 Asian markets that’s less expensive that its International Priority service.
   The service, called FedExInternational Economy, is targeted at shipments under 68 kilograms that are one or two days less time-sensitive than those that would move by Priority service. The service is primarily aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses in Asia.
   “The new service effectively addresses the needs of customers in Asia shipping intra-Asia and to the U.S. and Europe, who look for reliability and cost efficiency as a top priority in shipping,” the company said in a statement.
   FedEx said its International Economy service will typically deliver intra-Asia packages in two business days, and shipments to the United States and major markets in Europe typically in three to four business days.
   “We believe there is a clear demand for a service that lies between our premium International Priority express service and the regular postal service,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific.
   The service is available in: Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. In March, it will be available in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
