FedEx, Nissan to test electric car in North America

FedEx Express and Nissan Motor Co. will begin testing a 100-percent electric car, FedEx announced Wednesday.
The Nissan e-NV200 will be tested in real-world conditions in Washington, D.C. Similar tests have taken place in Singapore, the United Kingdom and Brazil, but FedEx said this will be the first time has been used in North America.
“We’re eager to work with FedEx and other companies to put the e-NV200 through its paces to continue to build awareness of the capability of electric vehicles and to evaluate how well it meets the needs of the commercial consumer,” stated Erik Gottfried, Nissan’s director of electric vehicle sales and marketing. “We’d also like to explore clever uses of EVs in work environments where carbon emissions of gas-powered vehicles make them impractical or impossible to use.”
FedEx said the car will undergo field tests involving routine requirements of a delivery for about six weeks. The mass production version of the e-NV200 is scheduled to begin later this year in Europe.
