FedEx Ground presently operates an automated terminal in Irving, Texas, and a distribution hub in Fort Worth. The new facility in Hutchins will be the third for the company in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Hutchins center, to be completed in 2005, will at full capacity process 45,000 packages an hour and employ 200 office workers, 1,200 package handlers, and 370 independent contractors.
FedEx Ground’s hub in Hutchins is the first of 10 facilities to be constructed by 2009, as part of a $1.8-billion network expansion. The next to be completed in the series will be in Hagerstown, Md.; Cincinnati; and Memphis.
