The Far Eastern Freight Conference said today its members’ container volume in the westbound Asia to Europe/Mediterranean trade increased 16.6 percent in September to 852,299 TEUs, up from 731,039 TEUs in the same month last year.
   The largest increase came in the Asia-to-Med trade, which has seen a number of services start recently. Westbound volume to the Med rose 16.4 percent to 293,758 TEUs. Far East-to-North Europe volume rose 15.7 percent year-on-year to 558,541 TEUs.
   After three quarters of 2007, westbound volume of the conference lines improved 20.2 percent to 7.07 million TEUs.
   The conference’s eastbound figures for September are not available yet. Eastbound movement by FEFC carriers after eight months stood at 2.22 million TEUs, an 8.7 percent rise year-on-year.
