Finnair Cargo has big first quarter

   Finnair Cargo handled nearly 10 percent more cargo in the first quarter than in the same period in 2013, seeing 35,220 tons of cargo during the first three months of 2014.
   Capacity increased by 2.2 percent, as freight revenue ton kilometers increased by 6.9 percent.
   “We had very strong demand on our Japanese routes, as well as on North Atlantic services during the first quarter,” Juha Jarvinen, managing director of Finnair Cargo, said in a statement. In March, North American traffic improved by 3.9 percent, year over year, to 744.5 tons; during the quarter, traffic rose by 6.2 percent. 
   “We see positive signals in volume development across many key markets,” he continued, “but yields remain under pressure.”
