Fire could close New Jersey Parkway

Fire could close New Jersey Parkway

Firefighters are trying to prevent a 13,500-acre wildfire that began Monday afternoon from spreading and possibly closing down the New Jersey Parkway.

While heavy trucks registered at 7,000 pounds or more are prohibited on the Parkway north of Interchange 105, it is used by trucks in the southern part of the state.

More than 2,500 homes have been evacuated as firefighters battle the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started when an F-16 fighter jet dropped flares as part of a training exercise at a gunnery range used by the Air National Guard for bombing practice. The Warren Grove range is about 25 miles north of Atlantic City.
