First Central America port added to CSI program

First Central America port added to CSI program U.S. Customs and Border Protection has added the first Central American port to the Container Security Initiative program.
   The Port of Cortes in Honduras is the 44th overseas port participating in the program, which screens containers headed to the U.S. for terrorists or terrorist weapons, the CBP said Sunday.
   In addition to bringing the CSI program to Honduras, the port is now participating in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) MegaPorts Initiative. The Department of Energy will install large-scale and sophisticated radiological detection equipment to identify nuclear material.
   CBP will station a team of officers at the Port of Cortes to target maritime containers destined for the United States. Honduran Customs officials, working with CBP officers, will be responsible for screening containers.
