Fisher named to head Border Patrol

Fisher named to head Border Patrol    Michael Fisher was promoted earlier this month to chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, a component of Customs and Border Protection responsible for enforcing immigration and smuggling laws along the northern and southern borders between official crossing points.
   Fisher was chief patrol agent of the San Diego, Calif., sector. He fills a vacancy created when the Department of Homeland Security transferred David Aguilar to acting deputy commissioner of CBP last January. Aguilar ran CBP for several months while the agency was without a permanent leader following the retirement of Jayson Ahern as acting commissioner and delay in confirming Alan Bersin, President Barack Obama's pick to head the agency.

Fisher

   Fisher was deputy director of CBP's Office of Anti-Terrorism in Washington from 2003 to 2007, where he worked with intelligence agencies on counterterrorism planning and operations.
   Bersin worked with Fisher during the past year in his previous capacity as Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano's special representative for border affairs responsible for coordinating the government's response to the escalating drug war along the Mexican border as well as managing immigration and trade programs.
