Five to be inducted into Maritime Hall of Fame

Five leaders in the transportation industry will be inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame next month.
They are Wei Jiafu, chairman of the Chinese shipping conglomerate Cosco Group; Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of the terminal company DP World; Joseph C. Curto, president of the New York Shipping Association; Spyros Polemis, the chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping and chairman and managing director of Seacrest Shipping Co.; and Matthew K. Rose, the chairman and chief executive officer of BNSF Railway.
The Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey presents the International Maritime Hall of Fame Lookout Awards each year to “visionaries, who through excellence in their company, organization, or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that will guide the maritime industry in the 21st Century.”
On May 9, the association will hold its 19th Annual International Maritime Hall of Fame reception and dinner at the Grand Hyatt New York to honor the five inductees.
For information on the event contact Judy Rovins, coordinator for the International Maritime Hall of Fame, at (203) 216-0681, or Ed Kelly, executive director of the Maritime Association, at (212) 425-5704.
