FLEET LINES, EXECUTIVES INDICTED BY U.S. ATTORNEY’s OFFICE

FLEET LINES, EXECUTIVES INDICTED BY U.S. ATTORNEYÆS OFFICE    The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California on Monday indicted Fleet Shipping Lines, company president Steven Schneider, of Marlboro, N.J., and general manager Charles Centorrino, of Farmingdale, N.J., for illegally transporting hazardous wastes.
Schneider and Centorrio were indicted by a federal grand jury on 14 counts of illegally transporting hazardous materials and one count of conspiracy to illegally transport hazardous materials.
The consolidators allegedly arranged for hazardous cargo to be shipped outside the United States by commercial shipping lines such as American President Line, Zim Israel Navigation Co. and DSR-Senator Line.
The indictment alleges the defendants presented cargo to these commercial shipping lines without disclosing that the cargo contained hazardous materials, and without properly labeling the shipments as containing hazardous materials.
The maximum penalty for each of the 14 counts is five years of probation and a $500,000 fine for Fleet Shipping. The maximum penalties for the individual defendants are five years in custody and a $250,000 fine.
Arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 7 in Oakland.
