Florida group boosting ties with Canada

A group of South Florida economic development organizations have started a new program to promote increased ties between South Florida and Canada.

The South Florida Canada Program was unveiled Wednesday by the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County and the Broward Alliance. The groups said the activities of the new program will include business development trade missions, outreach programs to existing Canadian businesses with operations in South Florida, and a comprehensive marketing program promoting South Florida as a location for Canadian businesses.

'This program offers our three counties the opportunity to combine our efforts and resources to present a unified economic message to Canadian companies,' said Frank R. Nero, president and chief executive officer of the Beacon Council. 'We have been working together as a region for a few years now, but this initiative is by far the most substantial effort by our three counties to market South Florida as a region outside the United States.'
