FMC investigates Bronx NVO

FMC investigates Bronx NVO The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said it has launched an investigation and will hold a hearing to determine whether a Bronx-based non-vessel-operating common carrier has properly obtained an ocean transportation intermediary license.
In an order served late last week, the FMC said it would investigate whether Angella Barnett-Walker, president and “qualifying individual” for Jamteck International Shipping Inc., had a long enough employment as an OTI to become a qualifying individual and for Jamteck to properly obtain a license.
The FMC said Barnett-Walker’s application stated she had worked for two employers from 2000 to 2004, but the commission alleged that information supplied by the two employers “indicates that Ms. Barnett-Walker does not have three years of OTI experience as required by the commission’s regulations.”
Under the Shipping Act of 1984, the FMC said it is to “suspend or revoke a license if it finds that the ocean transportation intermediary is not qualified to render intermediary services or that it willfully failed to comply with a provision of this act or with a lawful order, rule, or regulation of the commission.”
