FMC to discuss tariff-filing, New York port practices

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said it will discuss additional items at its previously announced meeting scheduled for Jan. 21.

The agency will hold a public session to discuss petition “No. P10-03” filed by the National Custom Brokers and Forwarders Association of America, Inc. The trade association has requested that the FMC should grant an exemption from the rate tariff-filing requirements for non-vessel-operating common carriers under the U.S. Ocean Shipping Reform Act.

The FMC will also review, in a closed session of the meeting, petition “No. P3-02” filed by the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers to investigate truck detention practices of the New York terminal conference at the New York/New Jersey port district.
