Crude oil prices reached a three-month high on Wednesday, and analysts blame the increase not only on production cuts by OPEC, but also on weather-related shipping delays in the Gulf of Mexico.
Heavy fog has slowed traffic in the port. Estimates on the number of tankers waiting to call in fog-laden Gulf ports varies — but dozens of ships have been affected.
On Dec. 20, the Bloomberg news service quoted a Barclays Capital note to clients that blamed bad weather and fog around Houston for an 84-tanker backlog on the main shipping channel. Fog has also reportedly affected shipping on the lower Mississippi.
