Foret to head CBP ag inspections

Vernon Foret has been promoted to executive director for agriculture inspection programs at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency said last week. He previously served as area port director for the New Orleans district.

Foret left the Department of Agriculture to join CBP in 2003 at the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and spent three years as regional border security coordinator in the Gulf.

He worked for more than 14 years at the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service at the Agriculture Department, where he spent time in charge of all agriculture inspections for inbound cargo, conveyances and passengers, as well as export certifications for the Mississippi Gulf coast.
