FORMER CP SHIPS EXECUTIVE HALLIDAY JOINS CMA CGM

   David Halliday, the former senior vice president of CP Ships and chief executive of Contship Containerlines, has joined the French shipping line CMA CGM as executive chairman of CMA CGM (UK) Ltd.

   CMA CGM (UK) is both a shipowning company and an agency.

   In addition to his responsibilities in the United Kingdom, Halliday will be responsible for the group’s expansion in Russia. This will include lines, agencies, intermodal activities and terminals, CMA CGM said.

   One of four senior business unit heads of CP Ships, Halliday announced his departure from the London-based container shipping group in February.

   At the same time, CMA CGM has appointed Stuart Sutherland managing director of the U.K.-based subsidiary, effective June 1.

   Halliday and Sutherland will succeed Alasdair MacVean, the current chairman and managing director of CMA CGM (UK), who will retire on May 31.

   CMA CGM said that Halliday will bring his expertise to bear on developments of CMA CGM group both in the U.K. and overseas.
