Former FMCSA chief Sandberg becomes consultant

Former FMCSA chief Sandberg becomes consultant    Annette Sandberg, who resigned in April as administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, has formed a consulting firm to help shippers and carriers deal with transportation and security regulations.
TransSafe Consulting LLC, based in Arlington, Va., will help companies lobby the Department of Transportation, other agencies and state governments regarding trucking regulations, assist carriers in evaluating their safety and security programs, keep clients abreast of regulatory changes and help them implement compliance programs.
Sandberg said her services also include advising companies on global transportation and logistics issues, transportation security and other security issues.
Sandberg, who served almost three years as the nation’s top trucking regulator, is also a former law enforcement officer. She was promoted from deputy administrator in 2003 by President Bush, and previously served as deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
She spent six years as chief of the Washington State Patrol after working her way up the ranks as a trooper. During that time she also earned a law degree.
Sandberg joins her former boss, Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, as former top DOT officials who have quickly found private sector work. Mineta stepped down July 7 and announced three days later that he had joined powerhouse public relations and lobbying firm Hill & Knowlton as vice chairman.
Sandberg can be reached at (703) 566-1923 or at asandberg3@toast.net .
