Fort Lauderdale airport facing security fines?    Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport could be facing federal fines of up to $100,000 for not yet correcting security problems discovered in a Transportation Security Administration audit of the airport last November, a report in the Miami Herald says.
   The TSA and the county would not publicly disclose the exact nature of the problems, and a TSA spokesman told the Herald that it is not unusual to discover problems during a security audit. But the spokesman added that problems are usually corrected quickly and said it is unusual for an airport to reach the point where it is faced with fines.
      The issue surfaced at a Tuesday meeting of the Broward County Commissioners, who took airport director Tom Jargiello to task for not keeping them updated on the situation.
   Jargiello assured the commissioners the airport is working with the TSA to resolve any problems, and added, “Unequivocally, the security program at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is one of the best in the country,” the report noted.
   The commissioners authorized spending of up to $25,000 on outside attorneys to make sure the problems are resolved properly.
