Forums in New York on Goethals Bridge Replacement

The U.S. Coast Guard will hold two forums later this month as part of the environmental review process connected to the replacement of the 78-year-old Goethals Bridge that connects Staten Island, N.Y., with Elizabeth, N.J.

The bridge is adjacent to the New York Container Terminal near Howland Hook. However, containerships calling there or at other container facilities in the city do not have to pass underneath it. Some bulk vessels travel beneath it to reach terminals on the Arthur Kill.

The open houses will include informational displays, a presentation on the screening results, and opportunity for informal discussion.

One meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Elizabeth Public Library on June 27, the other will be held at 6 p.m. at the Staten Island Hotel.
