Fourth Aker American tanker delivered

Aker American Shipping said the fourth in a fleet of Jones Act product tankers had been delivered to it by the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard.

The ship will be chartered to OSG America and will be used to carry product for Shell Oil Co.

Last December, Aker American Shipping announced a corporate reorganization whereby it became a ship owning company that would purchase and charter vessels, and the shipyard that builds them — located in the former Philadelphia Navy Shipyard — became a separate company.

The shipyard is building a dozen identical 46,000 dwt product tankers that are being purchased by Aker American Shipping and chartered to OSG.

Last year Aker American also entered into an option agreement to purchase up to 13 more of the same tankers from the shipyard, after the first 12 are built.
