FRANKFURT AIRPORT HANDLED RECORD CARGO VOLUME IN OCTOBER

Frankfurt airport handled its highest monthly cargo traffic in October, moving 151,193 metric tons.

The volume was higher than any previous month in the airport’s history and 13.3 percent more than in October last year, continuing the strong surge in cargo activity seen throughout the year.

Cumulative figures for January through October show that the airport handled 1.3 million metric tons of airfreight, an increase of 12.2 percent on the corresponding 10-month period in 1999.

Flughafen Frankfurt/Main AG, the operator of the airport, said that it expects robust cargo traffic for the rest of the year and will be able to maintain its position as Europe’s largest air cargo airport in terms of cargo tonnage.
