Fred. Olsen names new 40-knot ship

Norwegian shipowner Fred. Olsen has named a new fast ferry due to operate in its Canary Islands service.

The “Benchijigua Express,” built by Australian shipbuilder Austal in Henderson, will be able to maintain Fred. Olsen’s projected service speed in excess of 40 knots. The ship will carry up to 1,350 passengers, 341 cars or 400 truck lane meters and 123 cars. It is powered by four diesel engines driving three waterjets.

The “Benchijigua Express” is undergoing final sea trials before departing Fremantle, Western Australia at the end of November on its 9,500 nautical miles delivery voyage to the Canary Islands.
