Freighter sinks in Tokyo Bay
A Philippine-flagged freighter sank Thursday after it collided with a small Japanese cargo vessel in dense fog in Tokyo Bay, according to news reports.
The Japanese Coast Guard rescued all 25 crewmembers from the 6,184-ton “Eastern Challenger”. It was headed to the Port of Yokahama.
The Japanese vessel is the 498-ton “Tsugaru-maru”. Its five-man crew was unharmed.
The Kyodo news agency said the Philippine vessel was carrying steel, while the Japanese vessel was transporting ingredients for animal feed.
