The logistics software developer Freightgate has released a new customer self-service center module to help non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOs) manager their negotiated rate arrangements (NRAs).
Licensed NVOs are exempt by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission from filing and publishing tariffs under the NRA provision. NRAs are written, binding arrangements between a shipper and a licensed NVO to provide specific transportation services for a stated cargo quantity from origin to destination. Not having to publish the tariff gives NVOs an advantage when offering shippers spot rates for ocean freight.
The new module is designed to help NVOs take better advantage of the exemption and cut down on overhead related to tracking each transaction. Freightgate’s NRA Self-Service Center is a cloud-based platform that provides faster rate quotation acceptance.
The module enables quotations and acceptance of quotation, assigns a unique NRA-quote number and booking confirmation, assures proper application of rates and surcharges, and updates status and record keeping requirements, the company said. – Eric Johnson
