The shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC said this week it has opened a new office in Pipavav, India to cater to growing vessel calls at the port, especially relating to oil activities off the country’s west coast.
Container operations have become more prominent in Pipavav in recent years (APM Terminals operates the container facility) with cargo from Delhi and northern India being handled at the Gujarat port. It has primarily been a bulk cargo port, with India’s oldest and largest developed oil field, Mumbai High, nearby, though the oil field has seen production decline over the past few years.
“However, there are renewed drilling activities in the 25-year-old field recently, and new technology and drilling techniques are expected to give it a second lease of life,” GAC said.
The office is the 27th GAC operates in 22 locations in India.
