GAC-Ultramar extends reach in South America

GAC-Ultramar Network, part of the GAC global shipping agency network, said Thursday it has added Colombia and Ecuador to the list of South American countries within its coverage area.

   GAC-Ultramar, a joint venture formed in 2004, combines GAC's global network with Ultramar Network's local expertise to provide tailor made port and hub services to principals operating ships in South America. It previously covered Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.

   'Colombia and Ecuador operate some of the busiest ports and trade lanes in South America,” said Lars Heisselberg, GAC Group vice president for shipping, in a statement. “Our presence in both countries adds a significant boost to our existing network.'

   GAC-Ultramar Colombia offers tramp and liner services agency services. The network includes offices in Bogot', Barranquilla, Buenaventura, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Puerto Bolivar, Cove'as, Cali and Medell'n. GAC-Ultramar Ecuador is formed as a result of a port agency operating agreement between Ultramar Network Chile and Grupo Transoceanica. The ports attended by GAC-Ultramar Ecuador are Esmeraldas, Guayaquil, Manta, Puerto Bolivar, La Libertad and Gal'pagos.
