GeoMetrix Rail enhances tracking

Calgary, Alberta Canada-based GeoMetrix Rail Logistics Inc. is launching a new version of its railcar fleet management software that promises faster shipment tracking and easier cross-continental customer access.
The company is currently hosting a workshop for the launch for customers and industry partners in North America.
The update, called GeoMetrix Version 13, builds off the software’s existing capabilities and adds a transloading feature to let companies track products as they move across different modes. The company specifically called out tracking from truck to storage tank; storage tank to railcar; and railcar to the end customer. The goal, said GeoMetrix, is to let customers always know where their product is, where it’s heading, and tie that back to information around its point of origin and the stops it has made along the way.
The company said the interface was developed with the help of clients around transcontinental shipment needs. Its goal is to streamline the customs process by sending out relevant documents through available electronic data interchange (EDI) directly from the customer to their customs brokerage firm.
This falls in line with mandates in the works from the Canadian government that will require electronic data be filed with Customs prior to any border crossing of goods. EDI will let customs officials know what’s on board, its destination, and its value. – Geoff Whiting
