GLOBAL FREIGHT EXCHANGE ADDS PERMANENT BOOKING TOOL    Global Freight Exchange, the Internet-based wholesale airfreight exchange, has introduced a permanent booking functionality for its online system.
   GF-X said that the “allotment,” or permanent booking functionality functionality complements its markets for ad hoc or freesale capacity and provides participating forwarders with the ability to place automated bookings against pre-agreed permanent booking capacity online.
   “This is currently handled by faxes and phone calls between multiple carriers and multiple forwarders,” GF-X said. The exchange holds a complete record of allotments and allotment bookings and allows carriers to automatically alert forwarders to update and amend their allotments online.
   In addition to the introduction of the new functionality, GF-X said that it has been expanding its global operations, launching live transactions in Narita, Dallas and Houston over the last month.
   “The key to e-commerce is an intense focus on both deploying the right technology and on integrating it with core business processes within both airlines and forwarders,” said Andreas Otto, board member of Lufthansa Cargo.
