GPA invests in Port of Savannah’s Garden City container terminal

GPA invests in Port of Savannah’s Garden City container terminal Doug J. Marchand, Georgia Ports Authority's executive director, on Wednesday announced a series of infrastructure improvements, new equipment purchases and additional personnel at the Port of Savannah’s Garden City container terminal.
   The port authority will add three additional interchange lanes at the terminal’s Gates 3 and 4 and direct 'bobtails' to Gate 1 as well as hiring 60 additional field personnel. Furthermore, the authority has recently received additional rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) that are being assembled, and 30 additional acres of container storage were recently put into operation at the Garden City terminal.
   “In a continued effort to stay ahead of our record-breaking growth curve, I am pleased to announce several new improvements and additions that will allow the Port of Savannah to remain America's fastest-growing port,” Marchand said.
   “As Savannah’s volumes continue to surpass industry projections and shippers continue to target all water services via the Panama and Suez canals, the GPA is committed to serving an even larger share of the Southeastern population centers.”
