GRAND ALLIANCE PLANS CAPACITY REDUCTION FOR TRANSPACIFIC SLACK SEASON

Grand Alliance carriers Hapag-Lloyd, NYK Line, OOCL and P&O Nedlloyd are discussing plans to reduce vessel capacity in the transpacific container trade, starting in February.

The slack-season capacity adjustment, if confirmed, would take into account the traditional reduction in cargo volumes after Chinese New Year.

In the winter of 2001-2002. the Grand Alliance suspended one of its transpacific loops for the duration of the off-peak period.
