Grand Power Express expands air freight capacity Hong Kong-based logistics services provider Grand Power Express International said Tuesday it has expanded its air freight business capacity through new direct sales contracts with 10 additional airlines.
   The additional airlines, bringing GPE's total firms under contract to 15, boosts the firm's capacity, while providing a wider coverage of global destinations, including Europe, India and North America, the company said.
   GPE handled more than 42,000 tons of cargo last year, and believes the new carrier relationships can increase its tonnage by up to 70 percent per year.
   'The added carriers not only boost the scale of our air cargo operations, they also allow us to broaden the scope of both the import and export business and maximize our warehousing capabilities,' said Ricky Chiu, president and chief executive officer of Grand Power Logistics Group, parent of GPE.
   GPE has added about 80 staff positions to its China-based operation this year, bringing its total to 200 as of Oct. 1.
   The firm's air freight operations include scheduled consolidation services, express cargo delivery, aircraft charters and airport-to-airport/door-to-door air services.
