Green light for yellowfin tuna imports

Green light for yellowfin tuna imports

The U.S. Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Wednesday issued a notice clearing the way for continued imports of yellowfin tuna from Ecuador.

The agency issued the affirmative ruling after determining that yellowfin tuna harvested in the eastern tropical region of the Pacific Ocean by Ecuadorian fishing vessels are in compliance with the International Dolphin Conservation Program.

The NOAA said the finding was based on documentary evidence submitted by the government of Ecuador and obtained from the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission and the U.S. State Department.
