Greenbrier gets order for 2,000 railcars

The Greenbrier Cos. said Friday it received orders in November and December for 2,000 new railcars with an aggregate value of about $135 million.

The new orders are for covered hopper cars of various types, which are scheduled to be delivered principally in 2011.

The Lake Oswego, Oregon company said the orders are in addition to a backlog of 5,300 units on Aug. 31 and orders for 3,200 railcars received in September and October.

To support the increase in demand, Greenbrier said it intends to ramp up its production in January and open an additional production line late in the second calendar quarter of 2011.
