GRI Roundup: CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and MOL

Ocean carriers CMA CGM of France, Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd and MOL of Japan announced upcoming general rate increases, while this past Friday, the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index rose 1.9 percent from a week prior to a reading of 588.59.

   Ocean carriers CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and MOL issued general rate increases, while last Friday, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) inched up from the prior week.
   CMA CGM will increase rates from:
     • All Asian ports (excluding Japan) to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Ain Sokhna, Egypt; Aqaba, Jordan; Djibouti; Port Sudan, Sudan; and Aden and Hodeidah in Yemen. Rates will increase for all cargo by $200 per TEU effective June 15.
     • North Europe (including Northern France, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Scandinavia) to U.S. Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports effective July 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU container; and $300 per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot containers.
     • North Europe (including Northern France, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Scandinavia) to Canada effective July 1. Rates will increase by $75 per TEU container; and $150 per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot containers.
   Hapag-Lloyd issued general rate increases from:
     • East Asia to the East Coast of South America for all cargo and container types effective June 15. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU.
     • North Europe to the U.S. East Coast, U.S. Gulf Coast, Canada East Coast and X-Border for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
     • North Europe to the East Coast of Mexico for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU.
     • The U.S. East Coast and U.S. Gulf Coast to North Europe and the Mediterranean for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
     • The East Coast of Canada and X-Border to North Europe and the Mediterranean for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU.
     • The Mediterranean to the U.S. East Coast and U.S. West Coast for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU container and $250 per FEU container.
     • The Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East to the U.S. and Canada effective July 1. Rates will increase by $480 per TEU standard container; and $600 per FEU standard container, 40-foot high cube container and 40-foot reefer container.
     • East Asia to the U.S. and Canada for all dry, reefer, flat rack and open top containers effective July 1. Rates will increase by $540 per TEU standard container, $600 per 40-foot standard container, $600 per 40-foot high cube container and $760 per 40-foot reefer container.
     • Brazil to the U.S. East Coast and Canada East Coast for all cargo effective July 4. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU container and $200 per FEU container.
     • Brazil to the U.S. Gulf Coast and Mexico for all cargo effective July 4. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU container and $300 per FEU container.
     • Brazil to the U.S. West Coast and Canada West Coast for all cargo effective July 4. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU container and $400 per FEU container.
   In addition, Hapag-Lloyd issued a “Freight All Kinds” increase from all base ports in Asia to all North Europe and Mediterranean base ports for all cargo and standard container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $1,550 per TEU container, $3,000 per FEU container and $3,050 per 40-foot high cube container.
   MOL issued general rate increases from:
     • Malaysia to Mexico and the West Coast of South America for all cargo effective June 15. Rates will increase by $800 per 20-foot general purpose (GP) container, $1,600 per 40-foot GP and $1,600 per 40-foot high cube for dry and reefer containers.
     • Asia (excluding Malaysia and India) to Mexico and the West Coast of South America for all cargo effective June 15. Rates will increase by $750 per 20-foot GP, $1,500 per 40-foot GP and $1,500 per 40-foot high cube for dry and reefer containers.
     • North and Southeast Asia to New Zealand for all shipments effective July 1. Rates will increase by $250 per TEU and $500 per FEU for dry and refrigerated cargo.
   Meanwhile, this past Friday, the SCFI inched up 1.9 percent from a week prior to a reading of 588.59.
   Rates from Shanghai to Northwest Europe rose 5.7 percent of Friday, from $720 per TEU a week earlier to $761 per TEU, while rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean dropped 3.2 percent, from $918 per TEU to $889 per TEU.
   In addition, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast jumped 8.1 percent, from $788 per FEU to $852 per FEU, while rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast increased 3.9 percent, from $1,622 per FEU to $1,685 per FEU.
