Grounding briefly blocks Jaxport

The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday that it had to briefly shut down access to the Port of Jacksonville's Blount Island after a cargo ship ran aground in the St. John's River.

The Coast Guard said the containership Horizon Discovery ran aground near Little Jetties Park in Mayport, Fla. at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as the vessel was heading into Blount Island.

The vessel was freed by Moran Towing tugboats at 11:15 p.m. and continued on into port. There were no injuries and the Coast Guard said it would continue to monitor the vessel to ensure it is not leaking any oil or fuel.
