Group seeks to raise profile of hazmat profession The Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA) has signed a partnership agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
   The Fairfax Station, Va.-based association said a goal of the partnership will be to enhance the image of the hazmat professional, noting that many companies are retiring older professionals and replacing them with entry level employees or workers with additional duties.
   'The hazardous materials regulatory compliance management function is often targeted as a function which is not perceived as contributing directly to revenue generation and profitability of a company,' it said.
   'The mission of the partnership is to enhance recognition within companies, the industry, and the general public, for those involved in hazardous materials and to ensure the safe and secure transportation of hazardous materials,' the group said.
