Guyana rice producers threaten suit against Caribbean importers Guyana's Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud has recommended that the country's rice producers should go to the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice to stop two other Caribbean nations from allowing duty-free rice imports on a selective basis.
   Persaud is concerned that importers in Montserrat and St. Vincent and the Grenadines regularly buy rice from the United States and several Asian nations without imposing mandatory import taxes, an Associated Press report said.
   He said that creates unfair competition for Guyana, which is the Caribbean Basin region's largest rice producer. Rice is Guyana's third largest export, behind sugar and gold.
