Haight given Bowditch Award

Haight given Bowditch Award    Judge Charles S. Haight Jr. was awarded with the Nathaniel Bowditch Maritime Scholar of the Year award Wednesday evening by the American Merchant Marine Museum.
   Haight, a senior district judge for the Southern District of New York, was appointed by President Ford and confirmed by the Senate in 1976.
   A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, he was a trial attorney with the Admiralty and Shipping Section of the U.S. Justice Department from 1955 to 1957, when he joined Haight, Gardener, Poor & Havens. He specialized in maritime law with the firm before joining the federal bench. Both his father and grandfather worked at the firm and were well known admiralty attorneys.
