Halifax to expand container berth    The Halifax Port Authority said Tuesday it has started work on a project at its South End Container Terminal that would allow two post-Panamax vessel to simultaneously berth.
   The $35 million project involves deepening the berth to 16 meters from 14.5 meters and extending the berth.
   'This $35 million infrastructure project is significant as it means that the Port of Halifax will remain competitive by offering multiple berths that are the deepest on the eastern seaboard of North America,' said Karen Oldfield, the port authority's president and chief executive officer.
   HPA said it has invested more than $100 million in cargo-related port infrastructure in the past five years and plans to invest another $225 million over the next five years.
