Hall named Kings Point department head

Capt. Brian J. Hall has been named Head of the Department of Marine Transportation at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

   A 1984 graduate of the school, Hall holds a master’s license and has been a member of the faculty since 1998. He taught courses in terrestrial navigation, safety of life at sea, fast rescue boat operations, and basic and advanced firefighting.

   As head of the Marine Transportation Department, Hall serves with the rank of captain, U.S. Maritime Service, and he also has a commission as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

   After graduating from the academy, Hall served in the U.S. Navy as a surface warfare officer. In 1989 he joined the Navy’s Military Sealift Command as a licensed civilian deck officer, sailing on cargo, tanker and research vessels.

   In 1996, Hall came ashore as marine safety director for the Military Sealift Command’s Atlantic Region, a position he held until joining the staff at the academy. He earned a masters degree from New York Maritime College, Fort Schuyler in 1997.

   Hall lives in Merrick, NY. He is married and has three children.
