Hamburg container growth strong

   Container volume at the Port of Hamburg grew 15.3 percent in the first three quarters of 2011, to 6.8 million TEUs, the port said Monday.
   Import volume was up 15.6 percent, to 3.5 million TEUs, while export volume grew 14.9 percent, to 3.3 million TEUs.
   The port said “all trades involved in container traffic with Hamburg developed positively in the first nine months and achieved volume growth.”
   Volume to and from Europe grew 23.1 percent, to 2 million TEUs, while trade with Asia grew 10.6 percent, to 3.9 million TEUs. U.S. volume spiked 65.4 percent, to 198,000 TEUs, “thanks to additional liner service connections for the Port of Hamburg.”
