HANJIN/CHO YANG/DSR-SENATOR ADD YANTIAN TO EUROPE/ASIA/US PENDULUM

HANJIN/CHO YANG/DSR-SENATOR ADD YANTIAN TO EUROPE/ASIA/US PENDULUM

The United Alliance lines Hanjin Shipping, DSR-Senator, and Cho Yang Shipping have obtained regulatory approval from China to begin eastbound calls at Yantian on their Europe/Asia/U.S. West Coast “Pandulum A” service.

The first United Alliance vessel to call at Yantian with imports from Europe, as well as to load exports for North America, will be the “Hanjin Copenhagen” which sails from Rotterdam on Feb. 19 and arrives/departs from Yantian on March 15/16 respectively, said Hanjin.

Yantian is in mainland China, close to Hong Kong. It needs an inward supply of empty containers to support a one-way flow of exports to North America. Some containers can be brought in loaded with exports from Europe (an inherent option with a pendulum), and the remainder can be ferried in by ships which are calling direct at Yantian, Hanjin said. This latter approach is cheaper than moving empties overland via Hong Kong.

The United Alliance is the last major transpacific service provider to initiate a direct call in mainland China close to Hong Kong (see www.compairdata.com for details of any port and its associated liner services).
