Hanjin exec: Grand-New World partnership isn’t a major worry

The burgeoning new transpacific service partnership between carriers of the Grand and New World alliance doesn't much worry an executive from Hanjin Shipping, a member of the rival CKYH Alliance, along with COSCO, “K” Line and Yang Ming.

'As a competitor, is that good for us? No. But it's a fact of life in the business,' said William Rooney, vice president of sales and marketing for Hanjin, at a Los Angeles Harbor Transportation Club luncheon Tuesday. 'But it's difficult to work with partners. They'll have six, seven, eight partners, and that is not trivial. We're driven by what our customers want, not what our competitors do in tactical alignments.'
