Hanjin gets two more high-speed 6,500-TEU vessels

Hanjin gets two more high-speed 6,500-TEU vessels Hanjin Shipping will deploy two new 6,500-TEU vessels — the 'Hanjin Tianjin' and 'Hanjin Xiamen' — in its Asia/Europe trade, the Korean carrier said Tuesday.
   The new vessels will arrive on the Far East Europe Express Service, one of Hanjin's two Euro-Asia loops, in February and March after being christened at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan Feb. 7.
   The 'Tianjin' and 'Xiamen' are the fourth and fifth vessels of the company's series of eight ships capable of traveling 27 knots. The remainder of the vessels in the class will be in operation by early 2008. Currently, the carrier operates 80 container vessels on 60 routes worldwide. Last year, Hanjin became the first Korean shipping company to order a string of 10,000-TEU vessels.
