Hanjin receives two more 8,600-TEU ships

Hanjin Shipping said Tuesday it has received two 8,600-TEU vessels from South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

They are the second and third deliveries in a series of five such ships for the Korean line. The other two will be delivered in 2011, the carrier said.

The Hanjin Hamburg and Hanjin New York will be deployed on the PSX service offered by the CKYH Alliance, of which Hanjin is a member, at the end of January. The first 8,600-TEU vessel is already operating on the PSX, which, according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data, has a rotation of Yantian, Kaohsiung, Shanghai, Busan, Gwangyang, Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, Busan and Yantian. It operates with six vessels, all provided by Hanjin, with an average capacity of 7,642 TEUs.
