Hanjin to start Malta-Adriatic Feeder

South Korea's Hanjin Shipping will June 19 start a weekly Malta-Adriatic Feeder (MAF) container service to connect with two deep-sea strings.

The new service will use a single 1,000-TEU ship on a rotation of Malta; Koper, Slovenia; Venice, Italy; and Malta.

The MAF loop will connect with the Mediterranean-Asia-America Pendulum (MAP) and Asia/Med service Mediterranean Express (MEX), both of which will include new direct calls at Malta.

'Hanjin Shipping expects that the launch of this new dedicated service will help secure the rising demand in the Mediterranean area as well as extend the scope of its service in the nearby regions including Hungary, Slovakia, southern Germany and Austria,' the company said in a statement.

Hanjin added it is developing a dedicated terminal in Algeciras, Spain and plans on adding to its European feeder network.
