HANJIN TO TAKE TRANSATLANTIC SLOTS ON GRAND ALLIANCE/CP SHIPS SERVICES

HANJIN TO TAKE TRANSATLANTIC SLOTS ON GRAND ALLIANCE/CP SHIPS SERVICES    Hanjin Shipping said that it will take space on two northern Europe/U.S. container services operated by CP Ships and the Grand Alliance carriers Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, NYK Line and P&O Nedlloyd.
Hanjin’s move follows last week’s announcement that CP Ships-owned Lykes Lines and TMM Lines, the Grand Alliance carriers and joint service partners COSCO, “K” Line and Yang Ming have reached an agreement to withdraw ships and exchange slots in the over-tonnaged transatlantic trade.
Hanjin and its sister company Senator Lines have formed a global alliance with COSCO, “K” Line and Yang Ming. Until now, Hanjin has taken space on the joint COSCO/”K” Line/Yang Ming TAS2 service, which will be terminated. The TAS2 loop has called at Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Charleston, Antwerp, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Le Havre, Charleston, Miami, New Orleans and Houston.
Hanjin, together with COSCO, “K” Line and Yang Ming, is planning to take space on the South Atlantic Gulf Express and GAS services of CP Ships/Grand Alliance as part of a slot charter agreement. The South Atlantic Gulf Express service calls at Southampton, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Charleston, Miami, Houston, Charleston, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Southampton. The GAS loop has a rotation of Antwerp, Thamesport, Bremerhaven, Charleston, Houston, New Orleans, Charleston, Norfolk and Antwerp.
The agreement is subject to regulatory review in the U.S. and the European Union.
