Hapag-Lloyd joins Hanjin West Africa loop

Hapag-Lloyd is joining a West African service operated by Hanjin Shipping and United Arab Shipping Co., according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data.

The German carrier will join the WAF1 service, which connects the Mediterranean to several West African ports. In addition to Hapag-Lloyd joining as a slot buyer, the carriers are also doubling the numbers of ships it is operated with, from two to four (three from Hanjin and one from UASC). Average ship size on the service is 1,874 TEUs.

Also notably, the service will change the one Med call on the service from Valencia to Algeciras, likely to take advantage of Hanjin’s new dedicated terminal at Algeciras.

The service has a rotation of Algeciras, Lagos, Cotonou, Tema, Abidjan and Algeciras.
